Spring is a great time for car maintenance. The sun is out and you have more time in the day to get those car maintenance jobs done.

owner checks and refills car oil

Much like us, your car needs love and attention. Spring is a great time of year to undergo those jobs that may have been building up over the last few months. Winter can be harsh on your vehicle, so a little vehicle maintenance can ensure a safe drive through the warmer months.

Winter, especially up high around the alpine regions is notorious for degrading your vehicles' softer materials like seals, rubber and even your lights. Other vehicle components that suffer through winter can be weatherstrips, oils, fluids, battery, alternator and other mechanical parts.

At a glance you can isolate these issues before they become unsafe or even costly.

  • Oils and fluids
  • Battery and alternator
  • Wipers and washers

Tyres

So, your tyres have put up with a lot through winter. The constant changes in temperature and road conditions mean you should be having them checked regularly, even if it's just for a wheel balance or alignment. Your spring maintenance check should involve just a glance down at your tyres for obvious signs of damage, gouges or uneven wear.

Oils and Fluids

Checking your vehicles oils and fluids should be done regularly but again, spring is the perfect time to make sure they are all at sufficient levels. These checks include engine oil, transmission, brake and power steering fluids. So don’t wait till you see the warning lights, it's easy to check off your vehicle’s manual for levels and refilling instructions if you are unsure. Your front and rear wiper fluids should be topped up all year round as needed.

Battery & Alternator

Just like your household power bill during winter, your car battery is working overtime! You are putting your lights on earlier while using heaters and other electrical components. Most batteries have a lifespan of around 4-5 years but if you do not know when your battery was installed, you can have it checked at Kogarah Tyrepower.

Wipers and Washers

Frost on your windscreen is the number one cause for wiper damage but overall winter can be a harsh and damaging time for your wipers and washers. When your wipers become ineffective it’s time for new ones. These can be easily replaced at home or simply drive into our workshop for advice on fitment.

Why is spring a good time to look over your vehicle you ask?

As your days get longer and warmer, you’ll look to your car for that perfect escape. Whether you're hitting the trails or enjoying your favorite stretch of country road. The fact is, you spend more time in your car over summer than any other time throughout the year and let’s face it, we’d rather be driving than fixing issues.

Simple checks over your vehicle for signs of wear and tear can be addressed quickly and easily at home on the driveway with minimal use of specialty tools.
